Knowledge, Exploration & Communication

Knowledge

Learning involves connecting what we know already to new ideas and information.

Therefore, the more knowledge we have, the easier it is to learn and solve problems.  Knowledge is powerful.  Learners at Glenwood develop powerful knowledge through clear explanations, responsive teaching and independent practice.  Teachers have a vital part to play in leading the learning process to ensure the conceptual understanding progressively builds over time.  The development of a broad vocabulary is a key part of this pillar.

Exploration

Simply knowing things is insufficient.  We want our learners to use their foundational knowledge to form their own ideas about the world.  Encouraging our learners to think, debate and consider alternative views is a vital part of the education we provide.  Through authentic learning experiences and extracurricular opportunities, allow our young people to learn outside the classroom.

Communication

We want our learners to be confident in speaking to a variety of audiences.  In order to explain something to an audience you need to understand it.  Our learners get the opportunity to present in front of their class, assembly, school performances and visiting groups.  Through their writing and showcasing, they can exemplify the Glenwood WISDOM qualities.
