Everything Reading & Reading Ambassadors

Reading is a huge part of Glenwood Primary. For P3–7, the children are part of the Accelerated Reading Programme which has been running since 2010. Children work towards their individual reading targets and are encouraged to read as much as possible to achieve the highest success possible with their individual 'word count', in the hope of becoming a reading 'Millionaire'. Throughout Glenwood Primary, we have 8 Accelerated Reading Stations, like the one below in the photo, where the children will find an extensive selection of books, both fiction and non-fiction at various levels, which are tailored to each individual child.

The Reading Ambassadors and Reading Coordinator within Glenwood Primary help to order books for these AR stations, keeping ahead of the trend of the most popular children's books and novels. They also help to organise these stations, making sure the books are respected. The ambassadors and coordinator also help promote reading by organising two book fairs annually and also World Day events. The Reading Ambassadors take part in a book club each term, where they vote on and read a novel which interests them, broadening their reading horizons and working as a team. They can add their favourite reads to the 'Bookflix' display board for other children to get ideas from.
