Art & Design Curriculum Overview

A Wide Range of Artistic Experiences

In Glenwood Children are offered opportunities to explore and create through a variety of artistic mediums, including:

  • Painting

  • Drawing

  • Printmaking.

  • 3D Construction

  • Textiles

  • Malleable Materials

Skills Development in a Supportive Environment

We encourage children to develop a broad range of skills in a strongly experimental and supportive setting. Exploration, creativity, and self-expression are at the heart of every activity, allowing children to grow in confidence and ability.

Studying Artists and Craftspeople

Children are introduced to the work of many artists and craftspeople. They are encouraged to study, reflect, and make personal responses to these works, deepening their understanding of artistic traditions and contemporary practices.

The Importance of Process

The process of making and responding is valued as highly as the finished product. Through experimentation and reflection, children learn that creativity is a journey, not just an outcome.

Pride and Aesthetic Awareness

All children are encouraged to:

  • Take pride in their achievements

  • Develop aesthetic awareness within school, their community, and beyond

  • Appreciate the role of Art and Design in shaping culture and identity

In Glenwood we aim to nurture creativity, inspire imagination, develop curiosity and foster a lifelong appreciation for Art & Design. Every child is supported to explore, experiment, and express themselves through a wide range of artistic experiences.
