Music

We pride ourselves in having a rich and varied music curriculum. We know that music is vital to ensuing that all our children develop in the nurturing and enriching environment of Glenwood Primary School and are given opportunities to shine.

We know that music has strong links right across the curriculum so in Glenwood we are intent on ensuring that the teaching and learning of music is delivered to the highet standards giving our children the best oppertunities to learn and grow while having lots of fun!

As well as providing the music curriculum in our classes, in line with the Northern Ireland Curriculum, we offer,

Junior Choir for all childen in P4 and P5

Senior Choir for all children in P6 and P7

Glenwood Glee  A fun extracurricular club with the purpose of spreading joy through singing in school and across our local community.

Music Tuition   We benefit from close links with the St Anne's Trust and have a singing tutor, the renowned soprano Catherine Harper, who joins us weekly to train the ' St Anne's Scholars' These children are working through singing grades and are afforded  the incredible  opportunity to sing regularly in Belfast's St Anne's Cathedral.

Music Specialist  Ruth McCoy works with our children throughout the year in music workshops, developing confidence and skills in order for them to have the oppertunity to compose and perform to an audience of their peers.

Glenwood Musicals  Our musicals are always an oppertunity to showcase the talent that we have within our school. Our productions are the highlight of our school calendar and we put on a performance biennially. Some of our most recent offerings have been Oliver Twist, The Sound of Music and most recently Mary Poppins.

Annual Performances  We love Christmas in Glenwood and always ake sure that there is plenty of opportunity to enter into the Christmas spirit. We have a foundation nativity play, Key stage 1 nativity play and a P4/Key Stage 2 Carol service in our local church St. Matthews.

Assemblies We have 2 assemblies a week and dedicate time to singing, each class in the school hosts their own assembly, where parents and friends can come and see the children perform. These always have a musical element and are an oppertunity to showcase our  Glenwood talent once again.
